The GMC
To practice as an Anaesthetist in the UK you must be registered
with The General Medical Council (GMC).

Full registration with the GMC costs £390.00 and
there is an annual renewal fee of £290.00.
Full registration for EEA & UK qualified doctors £290
Full
registration for doctors holding overseas recognised overseas
qualifications: £390
Visiting
overseas doctors £390
Provisional
registration costs £100. There is no renewal fee for
the first two years, after this time you are required to pay an
annual fee of £80.00. If you wish to change from provisional
to full registration, the cost is an additional £150.00.

IELTS Test: If you do not hold an EU passport you will
need to complete the IELTS test (International English Language
Testing System) before you can apply for provisional or full registration.
The test can be taken in either the UK or your own country and
costs approximately £60.00.
Timescales: We suggest that you apply for registration
in person as this eliminates the risk of losing valuable documents
in the post. Providing all your documents are in order, registration
will normally be granted within 3 to 5 working days.
If you apply by post, it will take approximately 4 weeks for registration
to be granted.
Documents: To apply for registration the GMC require the
following:
Your original Medical Qualification Certificate
A letter of Good Standing from your country's Ministry
of Health
Your passport
The appropriate registration fee
If your Medical Diploma or Letter of Good Standing does not include
a translation into English please provide a certified translation.
Please verify with the GMC before getting this done, so that they
recognise the validity of the translation.
Anaesthetic Equipment
The Anaesthetic equipment used in the UK is standard, but for
clarification we have displayed machines and ventilators commonly
used today in the UK. If any of these seem unfamiliar please contact
us and we can clarify the equipment used in a particular hospital.
